The event Hosted by Yun-Shen Culture and held at Hei-Tu-Di Gallery, the highly anticipated solo exhibition of Cheng Shiyuan's works, "Nanfeng Zhi Wo Yi" (literally meaning "The South Wind Knows My Mind"), is set to open on August 4th. The exhibition will be held on the second floor of the gallery, located at 352 Joo Chiat Road.
The opening ceremony will commence at 2 PM, accompanied by the melodious sound of ancient Chinese pipa.
In the latter part of the ceremony, Mr. Cheng Shiyuan will deliver a speech titled "Where Lies the Beauty of Figurative Art? - A Discussion on the Expressive Nature of Calligraphy and Painting", using figurative art as an example to elucidate the unique beauty of form and spirit in calligraphy and painting.
A selection of works from this solo exhibition will continue to be on display and will be managed and sold by Yun Shen Culture Art Management.

艺术家程士元新加坡画展记实
“南风知我意,吹梦到西洲”,适值艺术家程士元携其近作来狮城举办首次画展。“南风”有南洋象征;“我意”,为文人书画所重。画展借用了中国南北朝时期的一首佚名民歌末句破题开篇。
程士元勤习魏碑三十年而不知老之将至,年近五十方始涉猎绘事。谁料一出手即以碑入画,直承海派;以形写神,远接晋唐。
这次展出计三十余件,尺素不大,多是人物,偶涉花鸟。线条洗练变态,质厚而形简,无一不合骨法用笔。
墨色随类渲染,色沉而墨韵,落纸虚实相生。至于诗文题款,但求自然书写,真情流露。
通览全幅,犹有中华民国文人书画金石遗风,非当代朝野大师挥毫油腻面目;细品局部,轮廓造像脱胎隋唐壁画,神采精微遗传洞窟摩崖。
无论仕女野僧,还是红花黑鸟,就像从不同的世界应邀纷至沓来,显得生涩而多情,落寞而独妍。
在一幅幅宽窄不等的画面中,程士元裹挟着温情和冷意的墨色为其投射出生命的光芒。
这看似冲突的艺术表现也许能追寻到画家早年学习影视戏剧的心路历程吧。
